SEO and web design in Amsterdam **for UK companies**

You already sell well in the UK. What is missing in the Netherlands is Dutch search visibility, a site that reads like it was written here, and someone in the market who owns it. That is me — one specialist, one hour ahead of London.

Why UK companies underperform in the Netherlands

Most UK brands enter the Netherlands with their English site plus a machine translation. It ranks poorly, because Dutch buyers search in Dutch with phrases that are not literal translations, and it converts poorly, because the page never addresses what a Dutch buyer worries about with a British seller: import duties since Brexit, delivery time, returns address, and whether iDEAL is available.

The competition here is often weaker than in the UK. Search volumes are smaller, but so is the number of companies fighting for them, which means a well-built Dutch presence can reach the top of Google far faster and cheaper than the same effort in the UK.

I handle the whole chain: Dutch keyword and AI research, the Dutch site or language version, the copy, the technical setup including hreflang, and the conversion work afterwards.

Wat we doen

What UK clients usually need first

  • 01

    A real Dutch language version

Correct hreflang and canonicals, Dutch URLs, Dutch copy — not a translated duplicate that competes with your .co.uk pages.

  • 02

    Dutch keyword research

Built from what people here type, not from your UK keyword list.

  • 03

    Post-Brexit trust content

Duties, VAT, delivery and returns explained clearly, where the Dutch buyer looks for it.

  • 04

    iDEAL and Dutch checkout habits

Payment, delivery and returns set up the way Dutch shoppers expect them.

  • 05

    AI visibility in Dutch

Being the answer when a Dutch buyer asks an AI assistant for a supplier.

  • 06

    Local signals

Dutch address, phone number, reviews and listings that make an unfamiliar brand credible.

Why the Dutch market needs a Dutch specialist

The Netherlands looks like an easy market from the outside: almost everybody speaks English, e-commerce is mature and buying power is high. That is exactly why translated websites underperform here. Dutch buyers switch to Dutch when they search, they compare on different sites, and they expect iDEAL at checkout, clear delivery promises and a Dutch phone number or address before they trust an unknown brand.

Search behaviour is different too. The Dutch phrase is rarely a literal translation of the English one, so keyword research has to be done from scratch in Dutch. The same is true for AI answers: when someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for a supplier in the Netherlands, the sources it quotes are Dutch pages, Dutch reviews and Dutch directories.

I have worked in marketing since 2005 and I am based in Amsterdam. I write the Dutch copy, do the Dutch keyword and AI research, fix the technical side including hreflang and country versions, and improve the conversion rate once the traffic arrives.

Wat we doen

How working with an Amsterdam specialist actually works

  • 01

English with me, Dutch for your customers

Every call, report and document is in English. Everything your customers read is written in Dutch by a native speaker — not translated.

  • 02

    One hour apart at most

Amsterdam is CET. That is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland, so we share almost the entire working day.

  • 03

    Video calls, not flights

We meet online every month. If you want to meet in person in Amsterdam, that is possible too.

  • 04

    Monthly reporting in English

Rankings, AI visibility, traffic and conversions — with a short written explanation of what I did and what is next.

  • 05

    Priced in euros

Retainers from €400 per month, project work quoted upfront. No setup fees, no long lock-in.

  • 06

    You deal with me

Not with an intern or a junior marketer. Many agencies outsource this work — here you get the specialist who does it.

Onze belofte

FAQ

Questions from UK companies

How does VAT work for a UK client?

The UK is outside the EU, so my invoices to a UK business carry no Dutch VAT. Your accountant handles it from there. Invoicing is in euros.

Does Brexit change our SEO in the Netherlands?

Not the search mechanics, but it changes what Dutch buyers worry about: duties, delivery and returns. Those answers belong on the page and in the checkout, or you lose the sale after the click.

Do you work in English?

Yes. All communication, strategy documents and monthly reports are in English. The content your Dutch customers read is written in Dutch, by me, from scratch.

Do we need a Dutch company or address?

Not to be found online. It does help with trust: a Dutch address and phone number lift conversion noticeably. I can point you to a registered business address and a workspace in Amsterdam if you want one.

Can we keep our existing website?

Usually yes. We add a properly configured Dutch version with correct hreflang and canonical settings so Google does not confuse the language versions, and I rewrite the copy for the Dutch market.

How long before we see results?

For a new Dutch presence, expect three to six months before positions become structural, depending on competition in your sector. I tell you upfront what is realistic instead of promising a timeline I cannot control.
